Joseph Monks has been writing and publishing professionally, mainly in the horror genre, for over 15 years. In 1989, his breakthrough comic book, Cry for Dawn, kicked open the door to the mainly superhero-rooted industry, and the book became one of the biggest independent titles of the 90's, developing a rabid, cult following and selling hundreds of thousands of copies.

Furthering his solo creative vision, Monks opened the doors to Chanting Monks Press in the mid-90's and has released a number of other horror titles including NightCry, The Night Terrors, Tales of the Dead and more recently, teamed up with television horror host and living legend Zacherley on Zacherley's Midnite Terrors, an ongoing anthology series.

Monks has continued both his comic book and fiction writing career despite losing his eyesight in 2002 as a result of diabetic retinopathy. In December of that year, his first prose horror anthology, Stuff Out'a My Head, was released, garnering rave reviews from Creature Corner, Cult Cuts Magazine, Ramp, and many others.

Monks is currently working on the script for Walkers, adapting the story from the recently released Roadkills chap book which deals with a family trying to run from a zombie apocalypse destroying the United States. He is currently in pre-production on another short film, tentatively entitled "The Bunker," which he hopes to lens in 2005, perhaps making him the first blind director in American film history.

Joseph Monks edits the horror anthology Sex Crimes with Hart D. Fisher.
