November 12, 2009![]() Votes For Women!Today, November 12, marks the birthday of Elizabeth Cady Stanton. She was born in Johnstown, NY in 1815 and little did her good mother know how she'd turn the world on its ear by doing everything Mama taught her not to do! Together with Susan B. Anthony, her lifelong collaborator, Stanton furthered the cause for women's rights with the presentation of the Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 and continued to fight for women's rights to the day she died in 1902. Were it not for her and the rest of those determined ladies of the 19th and early 20th centuries, your humble editor would no doubt have been changing diapers 20-some-odd years ago, instead of creating Scarlet Street with Richard Valley and hanging out with you! Happy Birthday Elizabeth! —Jessie Lilley |
